Software Buyer Guides

Plain-English guides to choosing, pricing and switching the business software you run on, from your first shortlist all the way to the day you migrate off the old tool.

Each one is written by the same team that tests every tool hands-on for our reviews, so the advice lines up with our rankings and real pricing, never with whoever pays the most. We are starting with field service software, the category we know best, and adding more as we review them.

Why our guides are different

Most "best software" guides are written by people who have never invoiced a job from a driveway. They rank tools by ad budget and repeat vendor talking points. Ours are the opposite. We test every platform hands-on, run a real week of real work through it, and only then write about it. Each guide distills that hands-on work into a plain-English answer to a real question: what to buy, what it actually costs, and how to switch without losing a beat.

No fluff, no sales pitch, and no affiliate link ever changes what we recommend. If the right answer is the tool that pays us nothing, that is the tool the guide points you to.

What our guides cover

Choosing a tool

How to shortlist the right software for your trade and crew size in an afternoon, instead of a month of demos.

What it costs

Real pricing, per-user math and the fees vendors bury, so you budget the number that actually hits your account.

Switching software

How to migrate your customers and job history, run both tools in parallel, and train the crew without downtime.

By trade

What matters most for HVAC, roofing, plumbing, pest control and lawn care specifically, not generic advice.

Where to start

New to this? Start with how to choose a tool, then price the shortlist with our free cost calculators and put your top two head to head. When you are ready, the full ranking shows every tool scored on the same 40-point rubric.

Buyer guide FAQ

Who writes these guides?

Our own team, led by founder Marko Ristic. Every guide is grounded in the same hands-on testing behind our reviews, and re-checked against our rubric before it goes live.

Are the guides free?

Yes, completely free, with no signup and no email wall. We earn a commission only if you buy a tool through an affiliate link, which never changes our advice.

How often are they updated?

We revisit guides as pricing and products change, and re-date them when we do, so what you read reflects the current state of the tools.

Do you push a specific product?

No. A guide points you to the tool that fits your shop, and sometimes the honest answer is the one that pays us nothing. No vendor can buy a mention.

Not sure which tool fits?

Start from the full ranking, filtered by your trade and crew size, and pick the right tool with honest scores and real starting prices.
